CINCINNATI (TCD) — Police arrested a 22-year-old man after he was accused of shooting and killing a 34-year-old pregnant woman while she was driving to a yard sale this month.
On Aug. 5, just before 5:30 p.m., Cincinnati Police received a call about a shooting on the 400 block of Rockdale Avenue. When they arrived, they found “a crime scene, but there was no victim on the scene.”
Soon after, police learned a woman arrived at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with a gunshot wound. She was later pronounced deceased.
Five days after the shooting, Cincinnati Police arrested Miquan Barfield on an open murder warrant. He’s in custody at the Hamilton County Jail on charges of murder, felonious assault, obstruction of official business, assault, and failure to comply with police. He was previously in custody for reckless driving and driving under suspension.
According to WCPO-TV, the victim was identified as Nia Booker. Three of Booker’s children, ages 7, 8, and 9, were also in the car when the shooting occurred. The 9-year-old reportedly called 911.
Booker was 9 months pregnant when she died, but doctors were able to deliver her baby girl, who survived. WXIX-TV reports the baby is now off a ventilator.
